學(xué)院以國(guó)家經(jīng)濟(jì)建設(shè)和社會(huì)發(fā)展為導(dǎo)向，結(jié)合珠江三角洲經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展的實(shí)際需求，堅(jiān)持“重基礎(chǔ)、寬口徑、應(yīng)用型”的人才培養(yǎng)目標(biāo)，英語(yǔ)專業(yè)教學(xué)分為四個(gè)方向：商務(wù)英語(yǔ)、英語(yǔ)翻譯、通用英語(yǔ)、外事旅游英語(yǔ)，采用“專業(yè)+模塊”的人才培養(yǎng)模式，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生既擁有扎實(shí)的英語(yǔ)聽、說、讀、寫、譯的能力，又具有相關(guān)行業(yè)職業(yè)的基本知識(shí)，成為能勝任商務(wù)管理、翻譯、文秘、英語(yǔ)教學(xué)、旅游管理、國(guó)際交流等工作需要的高素質(zhì)、復(fù)合型、應(yīng)用型英語(yǔ)人才。

English Major

The school of Foreign Languages, oriented towards the economic construction and social development of our nation, commits herself to the actual demands of the Pearl River Delta for its economic and cultural development, taking solid basis, wide caliber and applicable skill as talent-cultivating objectives. Current specialisms available to English majors comprise Business English, English Translation, General English, and Foreign Affairs and Tourism, and the training model of which is the major plus modules. Our students trained this way are not only strong in English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation but also in the necessary knowledge required by the relevant trades, which allows them to be competent in such international spheres as business management, translation, secretarial work, English teaching and tourism management.

英語(yǔ)系治學(xué)嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)，學(xué)風(fēng)優(yōu)良，十分注重教學(xué)質(zhì)量，歷年來英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四級(jí)通過率比獨(dú)立學(xué)院平均高10個(gè)百分點(diǎn)；2012年2010級(jí)學(xué)生英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四級(jí)考試一次性通過率為52.60%，比全國(guó)獨(dú)立學(xué)院平均通過率（35.77%）高出16.83個(gè)百分點(diǎn)；比全國(guó)院校平均通過率（51.09%）高出1.51個(gè)百分點(diǎn)，英語(yǔ)專業(yè)四級(jí)累計(jì)通過率達(dá)到79.6%。

The English Department features in its rigorous scholarship, fine academic atmosphere and attachment of importance to teaching quality, which has been proved by its exciting rate of passing TEM 4 over the years. The year 2012, for example, saw the relative high one-time passing rate of TEM 4（52.60%）achieved by its sophisters, which was 16.83% and 1.51% respectively higher than the average rate of independent colleges and that of all the colleges and universities in our nation. The passing rate of TEM 4, what’s more, added up to 79.6%.

英語(yǔ)系注重學(xué)生實(shí)踐能力的培養(yǎng)，開設(shè)多種形式的實(shí)踐、實(shí)習(xí)課程，如晨讀、外語(yǔ)角，組織學(xué)生到大型企事業(yè)單位進(jìn)行認(rèn)知實(shí)習(xí)。將各種專業(yè)學(xué)科競(jìng)賽融入實(shí)踐環(huán)節(jié)、積極建設(shè)并充分利用校外實(shí)習(xí)基地等，為培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的實(shí)際應(yīng)用能力、開闊眼界提供平臺(tái)。

The English Department, aiming at the advancement of students’ practical ability, has been undertaking sorts of activities and courses in practice, such as morning reading and foreign language corners. In addition, students are organized to visit large enterprises and comprehend their practical operation. A platform for students to apply what has been learned and to broaden their horizons, so far, has been constructed by means of competitions of professional disciplines and off-campus training bases.
