讀者Elinore在Harry Potter小說又看到另一句：
He did not see how he could possibly explain to Hermione that what she had done to offend Ron was kiss Viktor Krum ...
Elinore想知道為什么was之后是kiss而不是kissing或者her kiss with？
句中what she had done to offend Ron was kiss Viktor Krum其實應(yīng)該是what she had done to offend Ron was to kiss Viktor Krum，只不過把to省略了。
更重要的似乎是省略的問題。不定詞的to在什么時候應(yīng)保留，什么時候可省略？根據(jù)我的觀察，英語在這方面正在變化。以前遇到同樣句型，傾向保留to，現(xiàn)在省略的居多。
