1. A skittish and obnoxious passenger, he does not like to sit next to the driver.
2. As a skittish and obnoxious passenger, he does not like to sit next to the driver.
這兩句有沒有不同?
兩句的意思基本上一樣,都是說乘客是一個(gè)既緊張又討厭的人,而且不喜歡坐在司機(jī)旁邊的座位。如果沒有 as 的話,只是說出這位乘客的個(gè)性和行為。多加了 as,就把乘客的個(gè)性和行為的關(guān)系加強(qiáng)了,也就是說,他不喜歡坐在司機(jī)旁邊的原因,是因?yàn)樗且粋€(gè)既緊張又令人生厭的人。
我們看另外一個(gè)例子:
A newcomer to the school, he is very popular with the teachers.
As a newcomer to the school, he is very popular with the teachers.
按照上面的理解,第二句把新生的身分和老師們都喜歡他這個(gè)事實(shí)關(guān)聯(lián)起來:老師喜歡他是因?yàn)樗切律?,說不定他待久了,老師的看法就會(huì)有所不同。這個(gè)含義在第一句并不存在。
